October is National Arts and Humanities Month
October is National Arts and Humanities Month (NAHM) and St. Johns County will once again join the thousands of communities and millions of people throughout the United States who celebrate NAHM every year.
National Arts and Humanities Month is a coast-to-coast collective celebration of culture in America. Held every October and coordinated by Americans for the Arts, it is the largest annual celebration of the arts and humanities in the nation. From arts center open houses to government proclamations to banners and media coverage, communities across the United States join together to recognize the importance of arts and culture in our daily lives.
The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners will recognize October as National Arts and Humanities Month during the Tuesday, October 18, County Commission meeting. Meetings begin at 9 am. Representatives from the arts and cultural industry will be on hand to accept the proclamation. The public is invited to attend and join them in recognizing the many ways the arts and culture enhance our lives.
For the past three years, The Cultural Council has partnered with the SJC Board of Commissioners to present “Art in Public Spaces” in the Administration Building. Art in the public domain adds dimension, depth, and character to a community, inspires young minds, and reinforces a local identity to which citizens can relate and take pride in.
The public is invited to join the Cultural Council on October 18 as they celebrate the art, the artists, and the commissioners for recognizing the importance of art and culture in our lives.
